Freedom's Line

I don’t know about you, but I get the feeling that at some point, after events like the recent school shooting that the media is no longer reporting news, they are providing propaganda for a political agenda. There are only a certain number of times that you need to be reminded that some idiot shot some folks and a 24×7 block out of news takes care of that pretty quickly. But this is not a national crisis. The only thing that makes this national is the media and the currently empowered idiots who think they have an opportunity to push forward their political ideology who generally work together for the same goals.

We cannot and must not be shaken from our fundamental American values. I appreciate the republican and conservative punditry who have been rushing forward to defend law abiding gun owners. And they are making excellent points about how if the teachers and principal had been allowed to be armed some or all of them would be alive today along with unknown numbers of those children. But they are not finishing the job; they leave out the critical point of freedom which trumps all the other points together.

We have guns, not because they keep us safe, though they do that in well trained hands (OH! That a teacher had been legally allowed to be armed in that Newtown school!), we do not have guns because an armed society has less crime, though that is also statistically demonstrable (If only an armed parent had been legally allowed to be walking their child to class!), we do not have guns because we like to hunt although that is a thing we like to do, no my friends we have guns to protect our freedom. Because the last check against an out of control government is the armed body of freedom loving citizens. That is why we have the 2^nd Amendment, because our founding fathers saw a day when our own government would turn away from the fundamental freedoms they laid down as the foundation of our nation and they wanted us to have a way to set things right.

Gun control has never worked to stop a crime, but it’s done an amazing job of eliminating anti-tyrant resistance. We must rally to the line in the defense of our freedoms; this event is being viewed as a perfect opportunity to pass draconian gun legislation to destroy our freedoms. And the American people are being emotionally battered down by the constant media pounding they need strength to bolster their inner resolve. And the mealy mouthed ham fisted response the right is putting forward is just not cutting it. So let me help out with my own direct answer to the gun control goons.

We all feel for those who have lost loved ones in the recent tragedy in Connecticut. To lose a child especially to an act of senseless violence has to be one of the hardest things in life to go through. And while we cannot feel or lessen the pain those who have suffered loss are experiencing we can stand ready to help them in any way we can, helping those in need is a skill nearly perfected by the American people.

But now in the wake of this tragedy we have those who cannot stand freedom taking advantage of the emotion of this unfortunate situation calling for new highly restrictive gun control measures. They are calling on responsible armed citizens to be subjected to new inane restrictions on one of their fundamental rights and basic freedoms.

This leads me to ask why? They cannot be ignorant of the known facts, that an armed citizenry leads to less crime in a given area or that gun control has never stopped an active shooter from harming anyone or lowered the number of dead in a mass casualty event by even one. And it simply cannot be real heartfelt emotion resulting in an insatiable desire to prevent these events from happening again, people who would have applauded the slaughter of these children had they only been murdered prior to their birth don’t value human life enough to feel those emotions much less be ruled by them enough to do something as stupid as enact gun control.

I believe the reasoning can be found in the intent of the 2^nd Amendment. Our founding fathers had just finished fighting their own government to carve out of the wilderness this nation of ours. They were wise enough to see a day when the people of this nation once again would be called upon to fight tyranny within their government. And so they created the 2^nd Amendment to protect our basic human right to possess the tools needed for such an endeavor.

The only logical answer is that these people who this very moment are shouting for new controls upon free law abiding people, desire to be tyrants. They want power, and they don’t want to have to worry about what the people happen to think about it. It’s really the only thing that makes sense why else would these public figures constantly campaign for something so unpopular?

So if the price paid for our continued freedom is that from time to time bad people will exploit that freedom as has happened a few days ago and work evil upon innocents. We MUST be strong enough in our conviction for liberty to, with compassion in our hearts for those who have lost everything, say to each other and the world that this is the price of freedom and it is worth it.
