Last chance for CHL on campus this session

May 31, 2011

Dear Campus Carry Advocates:

The special session of the Texas Legislature begins TODAY. The only issues that can be addressed during a special session are those issues that the governor adds to the “call.” Inside sources say that as the session—which may last only a few days—progresses, Governor Perry intends to add a handful of issues that were killed by Democrats during the regular session. Obviously, we want campus carry to be one of the issues he chooses to add.

This is what you can do to help get campus carry included in the special session (which is our last chance until 2013 to pass a campus carry bill):

1. Contact the office of Governor Rick Perry, and ask him to add campus carry to the special session call. Be persistent! If possible, contact the governor’s office once a day (but no more frequently than that).

The Honorable Rick Perry
Office of the Governor
VOICE: (512) 463-1782
FAX: (512) 463-1849 (you can send two free faxes per day from FaxZero.com)
EMAIL: http://www.governor.state.tx.us/contact/assistance.aspx

2. Contact the office of Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst, and ask him to help persuade Governor Perry to add campus carry to the special session call.

The Honorable David Dewhurst
Office of the Lieutenant Governor
VOICE: (512) 463-0001
FAX: (512) 463-0677 (you can send two free faxes per day from FaxZero.com)
EMAIL: http://www.ltgov.state.tx.us/contact.php

3. Contact the offices of your State Representative and State Senator, and ask them to help persuade Governor Perry to add campus carry to the special session call.

4. Share this information with your fellow campus carry supporters. If we’re going to get the governor’s attention, we need immediate and persistent action on the part of ALL proponents of campus carry.

Remember, calling a legislative or executive office takes less than a minute—you simply share your opinion with the staff member who answers the phone, and then he or she may or may not ask for your contact info. That’s all there is to it.

Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Students for Concealed Carry on Campus
